Story
This is a companion piece to One More Time. Where that song lays out a plan to make it through a summer apart, this song is the sweet reunion that follows, 90 days later. A little time, and a lot of clarity—apologies and forgiveness. This song makes failing at love the goal—to do so, then repair—in order to get to a more mature kind of love that is not typically modeled in film, music, or literature.

It’s the closing of Summer
There’s a lingering heat
This town feels so strange without you
How I miss your kisses and your body…
It’s 755 miles
It’s an eleven hour drive
With just four days to make the most of
If I leave at dawn before long I’ll be at your side…
The curving road ahead reminds me
Of your silhouette in my bed
Can we begin again, again
Can we love and let go
Fail another time or two
Each time closer to the truth
Can we begin again, again (x2)
Harsh words had been spoken
Several months spent apart
Apologies and forgiveness
We made a plan to attempt a new kind of start
The setting sun frames your doorway
As you reach to welcome me in
Can we begin again, again
Can we love and let go
Fail another time or two
Each time closer to the truth
Can we begin again, again (x2)
Can we leave the past in the past
These days will go fast
And who knows they could be our last
That’s the kind of love that I need
It just keeps deepening
We can’t lose if we keep recovering…
Can we begin again, again
Can we love and let go
Fail another time or two
Or at least be willing to
Can we begin again, again
Can we love and let go
Fail another time or two
Each time closer to the truth
Can we begin again, again (x2)
